Happy New Year!

This was the recent New Year's message that was sent out to our district by the LCMS Eastern District President Rev. Chris Wicher...

Happy New Year! I hope and pray 2012 will be filled with more of God's blessings for you and that you will be drawn closer to Him in all wisdom and knowledge.

Psalm 90 tells us, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Interesting that the Psalm tells us to "number" our days rather than just "live" our days. That's because numbering is different than just living.

Living our days would be just that, without much thought, driven by our passions which more often than not are out of whack with God's will, filled with selfishness or vengeance or lust. Living our days would also be without lasting purpose or goal in the Lord. Just living our days would diminish our self worth and our creaturely-ness in the hand of God.

Numbering our days, like the Psalm states, is reflective and praise-driven. It is taking inventory of what one has, accounting for all the twists and turns of our days. Numbering has God in mind, mindful and thankful to Him for who we are, where we are, and what we are.

It knows that God is bigger than life itself, has the power to change things, even as He has given us everything. May your 2012 be wisdom-driven in the name of the Lord.

Number your days in Him.

Wishing your and yours a blessed New Year!

Grace and peace unto you.
